Heavy Weighs the Crown
Project Overview
A personal design challenge to develop a product from concept to release.
Game Design
I wanted to design a game that I would love to play. The inspiration for this game was 16-bit SNES classics like Mario and Kirby.
Character Design
I wanted to combine my love for classic Universal Monsters with 16-bit side-scrollers. Here are some of the concept illustrations I did.
Game Asset Creation
This was my first time working with pixel art and it was really funny learning how to illustrate and animate in this style.
Animation
I learned a lot about animation and working with sprites in Unity for this project.
Packaging Design
As part of this project I wanted to challenge myself to create a fully realized product that you could actually find in your local game store.
Web Design
I wanted to design a website the completely matched the tone and aesthetic of the actual game.
ui design
For the UI I used the same palette as the main character of the game and kept all of the elements really simple and bold, like you’d see in an old school game.
interaction flow
My goal was to create an easy to navigate site with all of your options within reach on every page without being overwhelming.
Modular design
I designed the site in such a way to be able to fluidly switch between mobile and desktop without losing any of its appeal.
Web pages
Here are a few screens from the website to give you a sense for the interaction, look and feel.
Game Demo
Lastly I challenged myself to build a (mostly) working demo in Unity.
